Sometimes it seems like I forget to turn ‘being alone’ into solitude; for when we are spending time with ourselves, we are just that – alone, with our thoughts, desires, questions, moods, pondering. That is not yet a prayer. Yet when we open our awareness towards God, even by just being still for a few moments and uttering a few words to acknowledge His presence, we tap into the wellspring of the living water that is within us – His presence that in turn waters our thoughts, and turns our being alone into solitude. It’s that simple. His presence, or rather awareness of it, changes everything.
From within this awareness peace comes; we can take this awareness into our day, into our encounters with others and notice that indeed the whole life is sacred. God’s presence makes everything, even mundane moments, holy. So, how can one forget?
